The New York Yankees shut down Manny Banuelos for the year
The Yankees have shut down 21-year old lefty starting pitcher Manny Banuelos for the rest of the 2012 season due to a bone bruise in his left elbow. Banuelos came into this season as the Yankees’ #2 prospect according to Baseball America. He pitched in 6 games (all starts) in AAA-ball this year for the Yankees and he was 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP. Banuelos has now pitched in 86 games (70 starts) in his first five years in the minors and he is 19-19 with a 3.12 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. This was a smart move by the Yankees.
