A.J. Burnett could be on the verge of losing his spot in the New York Yankees’ starting rotation
34-year old righty starting pitcher A.J. Burnett could be on the verge of losing his spot in the Yankees’ starting rotation when Freddy Garcia comes off of the D.L. Burnett has pitched in 4 games (all starts) so far this August and he is 1-1 with a 10.70 ERA and a 2.38 WHIP. He has given up 35 hits (3 of which are homers) in his first 17 2/3 innings this month. Burnett has now pitched in 26 games (all starts) for the Yankees so far this year and he is 9-10 with a 4.96 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. He has given up 23 homers in only 156 innings this year which is amazing for a guy with the stuff that he has. Burnett has also walked 70 batters, hit 7 batters and he has uncorked 17 wild pitches this year, and all of those things have gotten him into some serious trouble this year. Burnett better be lights out in his next start because he’s starting to run out of time in the rotation.
Burnett should really step up his game to be able to stay on the team. If he slacks or stay the way he is performing then he would really be replaced with someone that is more capable than him. I hate to see him go but if the Yankees decides it them there is nothing we can do.
Burnett has become a liability…having one bad inning but keeping his team in the game like he usually does is one thing. Completely getting shellacked everytime out is another. He’s gotta ride the pine or get sent down (with any luck maybe he doesn’t clear waivers and someone else can pick up his problems and salary) when Garcia comes back and NO WAY does this guy
deserve to sniff the postseason roster!
David, once again you are showing a lack of knowledge. No Yankees’fan will shed a tear if they were to dump Burnett. I agree with you Jonathan, Burnett should be nothing more than a mop up man in September. Don’t be surprised to see the Yanks make a deal for a starter for the back end of the rotation in the next couple days.
