The Brooklyn Nets finished the 2012-13 season with a 49-33 record, which had them in 2nd place in the Atlantic Division, 5 games behind the Knicks. The Nets then got bounced in 7 very hard fought games in the first round of the playoffs by the Chicago Bulls. Here is a look at the players who made the biggest impacts for the Nets in 2012-13, in my opinion:
TEAM MVP: Deron Williams - The offense only clicked on all cylinders for the Nets when Williams stepped up his game. He played in 78 games (all starts) for the Nets in 2012-13 and he averaged 36.4 minutes, 18.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Williams had 21 double-doubles for the Nets last year. He had 32 games with at least 20 points and 22 games with 10 or more assists last year.
BIGGEST SURPRISE: Brook Lopez - 25-year old center Brook Lopez stayed healthy all year in 2012-13 and he came back with a vengeance. Lopez played in 74 games (all starts) for the Nets last year and he averaged 30.4 minutes, 19.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 2.1 blocked shots per game. Lopez had 12 double-doubles for the Nets last year. Lopez had 36 games with 20 or more points, 13 games with 10 or more rebounds and 28 games with at least three blocked shots for the Nets in 2012-13.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Kris Humphries -28-year old power forward Kris Humphries averaged a double-double for the Nets in 2010-11 and 2011-12, but he got into the Dog House early in the 2012-13 and he never got out of it…..losing his starting job to Reggie Evans. Humphries played in 65 games (21 starts) for the Nets last year and he averaged 18.3 minutes, 5.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He had six double-doubles for the Nets last year. Humphries had 18 games with at least 10 points and 9 games with at least 10 rebounds in 2012-13.
